Good Now! My real name is Paul McNelis, and in addition to being one of 8 billion (and counting) apes on this planet, I am also a:
- Father/Dad and Husband
- Multipotentialite (i.e. jack of all trades, master of none):
- Terrible Musician – I tried, too: guitar, drums, piano, digital music. And while I can keep a beat, strum a few chords, write a synth & bass line, it’s just not my thing. Although I am good with the Native American Flute, for whatever that’s worth!
- Writer – Soon-to-be Published Author, Poet, Lyricist
- Artist – Dadaist & Surrealist mostly, I guess you’d say
- ASMR Creator / ASMRtist – Since 2012 – I never considered it a specialized vocation like being a writer, painter, guitarist, etc., as it only requires basic skill & knowledge
- Actor, Performance Artist – Youtube, not Hollywood (nnever thought about pursuing that in my youth. In a way, I’m glad I didn’t)
- Comedian, Humorist, Satirist – Also, not Standup. I’d be good at it, but just never knew about pursuing that in my youth. And I hate travelling now, so…
- Thinker, Critical / Analytical Thinker – Modern philosopher, though calling myself that is pretentious
- Character Creator, World & Universe Builder – Thalmultaria, Professor Clemmons, Corvus, Margaret, etc.
- Neologist – “Splentastic”, “Good Now”, and the words I came up with in my first soon-to-be-published self-published book
- Photographer – Primarily Nature & Macro
- Drawer (?) – Hobbyist, not an illustrator
- Sound & Video Designer/Editor – Videographer too, I suppose
- Costume & Prop Designer
- PC Builder
- DIY’er
- Former Moderate Alcohol User – Here & there since ~1988 (mostly in my 30s, early 40s) then quit for good early January 2022
- Former Moderate Tobacco User – Again, off and on since ~1988, then quitting for good 2005
- Former Infrequent Cannabis User – Maybe 10 times total from ~1986 then quit for good ~2005)
- Never did any drugs harder than the above but would like to legally and safely try LSD or mushrooms for the experience and see what it’s like
- Catholic School Survivor – Former Roman Catholic (Kindergarten to Senior Year High School) Now non-believer (Atheist, Agnostic-atheist, Antitheist, whatever)
- Optimistic Nihilist – The wonderfully liberating feeling knowing life has no meaning, therefore I can do whatever the fuck I please, day to day, to make it meaningful and enjoy it in my own way!
- Cynical Optimist – Expect the worst, but hope for the best!
- Ambithrope, Compassionate Misanthrope, Cynical Humanist, Aesthete
- Anarchist / Anarchism / Anarcho-Primitivist – Mostly philosophical, sometimes practical, like self-publishing my own book. Not a green anarchist, i.e. I don’t litter, but I also don’t go around cleaning up after people
- Naturalist – Love nature, healthy environment good, but also: nature/universe doesn’t care, about anything (itself, us, etc.))
- Realist, Rationalist – What I said above about nature
- Pragmatist
- Moderate Sugar User – Hard to go a single day without a little something sweet!
- Moderate Coffee User – Black, decaf or caf; don’t need caf unless mentally tiring in the afternoon. Not ever day either, sometimes not even every week
- Foodie / Omnivore – Food! One of the few “Humans are awesome!” things
- Gamer – Since the Atari 2600 and Commodore 64. Have dry spells where I won’t play anything for months.
- Doesn’t Know It All
- Is 99% Right About Everything
- Mistake Maker and Learner from Said Mistakes
- Getting Older and Still Evolving
Welcome to my 3rd home, the 2nd being my YouTube channel (where I use to dump the majority of my creative energy before realizing I’m a writer and embarked on that final journey of my life in October 2025), and the 1st being the actual house where I live with my wife and son in Southeastern Pennsylvania where we were all born, raised, and still reside.
After spending most of my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life creatively, beyond becoming a husband and father, I stumbled onto the ASMR niche on YouTube in the spring of 2012. That’s when I realized the thing I experienced all my life had a name, and the rest is history. My YouTube channel and channel name were created in September 2011 prior to the whole ASMR thing.
I enjoyed creating a wide variety of videos ranging from quiet, calm and relaxing, to loud, provocative and unsettling. Now that I’ve embraced the writer I should have always been since a teen, the whole “ape make video” thing isn’t as important to me as it used to be.
Oh, and I was diagnosed in 2010 with having an Acoustic Neuroma in my left ear which led to permanent hearing loss and tinnitus in that ear by around 2014 or so, leading to permanent hearing loss in that ear. So I’m like a modern-day Beethoven, except I suck at composing music.
